A Boeing 787 Dreamliner was the placement of a historic vow renewal over the weekend. Kris Perry and Sandy Stier, the primary same-sex couple to marry in California after Prop 8 was overturned, renewed their vows onboard the Air Tahiti Nui from Los Angeles to have fun their tenth anniversary.
The flagship carrier of French Polynesia hosted the ceremony to commemorate not only the couple’s anniversary but that of each other same-sex couple afforded the chance to marry attributable to the couple’s victorious fight for equality within the state.
A celebration within the air!
The flight was conducted on one among the carrier’s 4 Boeing 787 Dreamliners registered F-OVAA. The 6,591 KM flight from Los Angeles International Airport to Faa’a International Airport in Papeete took just below eight hours, landing on the South Pacific island at 05:13.
Chief purser Rodrigue Chan, who identifies as gay, led the couple’s vow renewal ceremony within the plane’s Poerava Business cabin almost ten years from their original wedding date in June 2013. Caroline Borawski, Air Tahiti Nui’s Vice President of the Americas, noted the historic nature of the event and the welcoming atmosphere of Tahiti:
“Air Tahiti Nui is honored to host Kris and Sandy’s vow renewal ceremony in-flight as a part of their dream anniversary getaway in one of the crucial inclusive destinations on this planet.
“The Islands of Tahiti are known for his or her incredible hospitality for all people, and Air Tahiti Nui is proud to be an element of that culture that not only accepts but celebrates LGBTQIA+ individuals and their contributions to a more equitable future.”

A special moment for the historic couple
Kris Perry and Sandy Stier were plaintiffs within the lawsuit which fought California’s Proposition 8 to the US Supreme Court. The decision found that California ballot initiative Proposition 8, which had banned same-sex marriage, violates equal protection under the law. This decision re-legalized gay marriage, with Kris and Sandy becoming the primary same-sex couple to marry in California after the law was overturned.
The Islands of Tahiti have a history of understanding and accepting transgender individuals and same-sex relationships inside their communities long before the arrival of the French. To honor the couple’s fight for his or her civil rights and to rejoice in ten years of marriage, Air Tahiti Nui partnered with Conrad Bora Bora Nui to launch a brand new Vow Renewal Package, which incorporates a romantic stay in either an Overwater or Beach View Villa. Perry, an early childhood advocate, expressed her excitement to have fun each her anniversary and experience the Tahiti:
“We’re delighted to have fun ten years of marriage and equality, in addition to tens of 1000’s of LGBTQ couples, in a spot that has a legacy of embracing all of us.”
