WestJet Inaugurates 2 Transborder Routes

This summer travel season is getting significantly busier for Canada’s WestJet after the airline recently expanded its transborder network with two more latest routes from West Canada. The brand new routes further enhances the airline’s total network capability by over 40%, and the numbers are expected to climb even higher, with much more latest routes awaiting inauguration in the approaching weeks.

Last month, the Canadian carrier began its summer expansion from West Canada after adding latest flights to Atlanta, Austin, Chicago, Nashville, and Seattle. Connecting Edmonton and Minneapolis

The opposite latest route from WestJet was a non-stop transborder flight service between Edmonton International Airport and Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport, with the departure of flight WS 1546 at roughly 09:56. The inaugural flight was flown by a Boeing 737-700 registered C-GWSO, which made the nearly three-hour journey before landing at 13:20.

In comparison with the brand new Calgary-Washington route, WestJet’s latest flight service from Edmonton can be operated on a five-times-weekly basis, with the airline deploying either its Boeing 737-700s or its Boeing 737-800s. The flight schedule is as follows:

With a five-times-weekly schedule, it’s evident that the inclusion of Minneapolis to Edmonton’s network will see the Canadian airport’s transborder capability increase by over 150% this summer. Furthermore, the brand new addition may also enhance WestJet’s total network capability by over 40%, making it the most important network expansion from a single city in its history.

The brand new US connection also unlocks a network of opportunities for WestJet, as its arrival in Minneapolis allows passengers to access an enormous network of other US destinations via its longstanding partner, Delta Air Lines. Scheduled with a thrice-weekly frequency on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, WestJet will launch its latest non-stop flight service connecting Saskatoon John G. Diefenbaker International Airport and Minneapolis. The airline will deploy its Boeing 737-700s for this route.
