As a Richard Branson backed airline, Virgin Blue set out from Day 1, which was August 31, 2000, to be irreverent and different and to inject some fun into Australia’s extremely conservative airline industry. While the airline has since modified its name to Virgin Australia, that spirit lives on, as passengers on a recent domestic flight came upon – or already knew.
Australia’s first Halloween Night Flight
On Halloween night (October 31), a Virgin Australia red-eye domestic flight from Perth to Sydney transformed right into a flying home for ghosts, zombies and various characters, and that is just the cabin crew. The airline launched Australia’s first-ever Halloween Night Flight when its overnight service departed Perth Airport at 23:13 on October 31.

The departure gate was transformed right into a Haunted Hall where adventurous passengers and cabin crew could get their spooky makeover before boarding the primary flight of its kind in Australia. The flight from Perth to Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport (SYD) covers 3,284 kilometers (2,000 miles) and takes around 4 hours, so there was loads of time for some trick-or-treating onboard.

As the images show, the crew looked suitably ghoulish as they pushed the cobweb-covered carts to supply passengers midnight treats. Confectionary giant Mars Wrigley provided the long-lasting M&Ms, Mars Bars and Milky Ways, but no details have been shared of what the zombies and ghosts actually got as much as throughout the flight.

Virgin Australia Chief Customer and Digital Officer Paul Jones said the airline is all about bringing unique and wonderful experiences to the travel journey, even taking the spooky Halloween celebrations sky-high.
“It’s our mission to be Australia’s most loved airline and meaning giving our customers wonderful experiences at any time when they fly. Our cabin crew loved moving into the spirit of Halloween and guests were thrilled by the theatrics. From the eerie orange in-flight lighting and spooky costumes to the mid-air trick-or-treating, it was undoubtedly considered one of our most memorable flights.”
The flight was operated with a Boeing 737-800, registration VH-VUO and MSN 36601, that departed at 23:13 and arrived in Sydney at 06:12, which will need to have been a startling sight for all those business travelers lining as much as catch the primary flight out of Sydney Airport. The zombies will need to have behaved themselves because, by 07:42, the 737 was turned around and on its method to Adelaide, although perhaps with a distinct crew?
Causal clothes day at Virgin Australia
Having said that, Virgin Australia declared that November 1 was a Uniform Chill out Day and invited its entire frontline workforce to get into the Halloween spirit. That meant that cabin crew, ground crew, guest services and more could add their very own spooky touch to their uniforms for the 24-hour period.

To maintain the spirit going a little bit bit longer, pricing on chosen Virgin Australia domestic Economy Reward Seats has been slashed. Described by Virgin Australia as , seats can be found for just 5,200 Velocity points (plus taxes, fees and carrier charges) one-way for bookings created from 10:01 on October 31 until 10:01 on November 7 for travel by June 30, 2024.
The airline has also released 600,000 additional Economy Reward Seats on Virgin Australia operated domestic and international routes, giving more opportunities for purchasers to fly for fewer points.
