Vietjet’s international expansion over the past 12 months has paid off the carrier, particularly within the Indian market. The airline has greater than quadrupled the variety of passengers carried between Vietnam and India in comparison with last 12 months.
Vietjet sees huge India traffic boost
Vietjet launched 11 recent international routes within the second quarter of 2023 to Australia, Indonesia and India. In consequence, it has overseen a large increase in international traffic over the primary half of 2023, carrying 3.5 million passengers.
Particularly, its rapid expansion in India has led to remarkable ends in this market – the airline served over 300,000 passengers in the primary half of this 12 months, almost five times greater than the 70,000 through the same period last 12 months. Inside Vietjet’s Indian network
The Vietnamese carrier now operates seven routes to India from its Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City bases and flies to 4 Indian destinations – Ahmedabad, Kochi, Mumbai and Latest Delhi.

Its entire network now consists of 120 routes – 75 international and 45 domestic – to almost 100 destinations worldwide. At the start of the 12 months, the airline launched its ‘SkyBoss Business’ class onboard its Airbus A330 fleet, which now conducts flights to Australia, India, Kazakhstan, Japan, and South Korea.
Australia growth
Since April, Vietjet has launched three recent routes from Ho Chi Minh City to the three largest cities in Australia – Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney – and can add a fourth – Perth – in November. Because it has done several times on other routes, the carrier recently announced it might offer $0 fares for the launch of its Perth flights.

The airline noted that, before 2023, there was a median of 500,000 annual passengers flying between Vietnam and Australia. Since launching its recent routes, weekly passenger numbers have doubled, with traffic more likely to hit the one-million mark by the top of the 12 months. From December, the airline will offer 70% more A330 capability on its Australian routes, further bolstering capability in a market where there’s clearly a whole lot of demand.
