Vietnam’s largest private airline, Vietjet, is fast becoming considered one of Asia-Pacific’s most connected carriers and a proven performer with regards to opening recent routes, be they domestic, regional or intercontinental services. Much of the main target has been on establishing recent networks in Australia and India, but Vietjet can also be continually on the lookout for recent opportunities inside Asia, and this week it has found one other one.
A brand new nonstop to Laos
Yesterday, Vietjet revealed one other trail-blazing route when it announced a brand new connection between Vietnam’s business center of Ho Chi Minh City and the capital city of Laos, Vientiane, starting February next yr. Coincidentally I’m with the Vietjet team in Ho Chi Minh City this week and learned concerning the recent partnership and route while touring the airline’s magnificent Training Academy, but more about that in one other Easy Flying story. Yesterday’s agreement was signed in Vientiane within the presence of Vietnam National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue and Laos National Assembly Vice Chairman Southone Xayachak.
Airline partnerships are popping up all over the place as carriers seek to maximise their reach at a time when capability continues to be relatively limited, particularly on many routes throughout Southeast Asia. This Vietjet – Lao Airlines partnership brings the 2 airlines together as comprehensive partners in passenger and cargo transportation and to expand cooperation in technical fields, aircraft maintenance and repair, aviation workforce training and more.

Vietjet will begin the brand new service between Ho Chi Minh City and Vientiane in February 2024, and it’s going to be the one nonstop route available between the 2 cities. The initial plan is to operate 4 weekly return flights and with a flight time of around 1:45 hours, any of Vietjet’s 77 Airbus A320 Family narrowbodies, including the newest generation A321neos, are greater than able to operating the brand new service.
Good prospects for two-way traffic
The airline is confident there are many attractions at each ends of the route to draw reciprocal traffic in each direction, particularly to Vientiane’s architectural landmarks, temples, pagodas, local festivals, unique cuisine and idyllic setting on the Mekong River. Vietjet is equally happy with what Ho Chi Minh City offers Laotian visitors, resembling its vibrant lifestyle, cultural features, renowned architecture and seamless connectivity on the airline’s international and domestic networks.
