TUI has accomplished its first passenger flight with the Embraer E195-E2 following a naming ceremony at Antwerp Airport. ‘Flanders’ entered service on June nineteenth with a flight from Antwerp to Malaga.
TUI debuts E195-E2 jet
After taking delivery of its first Embraer E195-E2 in May, TUI fly Belgium has put the primary of three E2 jets into service this week. Flight TB1001 departed Antwerp (ANR) at 14:30 and landed in Malaga (AGP) at 17:25.

Bart De Wever, the mayor of Antwerp, led the naming ceremony for the aircraft, with Elie Bruyninckx, TUI Western Region CEO, and Eric Dumas, CEO of Antwerp Airport, amongst those in attendance. The plane was named Flanders after the Belgian region to which the town of Antwerp belongs.

The E2 will allow TUI to operate more sustainable and environmentally-friendly flights out of Antwerp – the E2 is heralded as essentially the most fuel-efficient and quiet aircraft under 150 seats in the marketplace today. TUI will welcome two more of the jets in the approaching weeks that are as a result of be named “Brussels” and “Wallonia”.

More range, more destinations
With its recent fleet of Embraer’s next-generation jets, TUI has been capable of expand its offerings out of Antwerp with recent routes to the likes of the Canary Islands, southwest Turkey and Greece. The E2 is good for TUI’s Antwerp network as a result of the airport’s small runway – measuring just over 1,500ft – which rules out larger jet-powered aircraft.

The plane operates with a spread exceeding 4,000 km, opening up many previously unreachable destinations from Antwerp – CEO Bruyninckx has hinted that the airline is just a few more holiday destinations for the longer term following its Summer 2023 additions.

About ‘Flanders’
The E2 jet (registration: OO-ETB) is 2 years old and is owned by lessor AerCap – it previously flew for Belavia before joining the TUI fleet in May 2023.

The aircraft can seat as much as 136 passengers in an all-economy layout and can replace TUI’s Embraer 190 fleet. The E2 can seat 24 more passengers than the E190 and likewise offers major performance improvements, including 50% less noise emissions and a 33% reduction in CO2 emissions.
