Earning Companion Pass
Companion passes are almost unheard of in 2024, but one American airline still offers the perk to its clients. Generally, Southwest Airlines’ Companion Pass is generally available based on the number of flights flown or points earned in a calendar year. Now, for a limited time, the low-cost carrier is offering the benefit based on credit card spend. Not only can passengers earn the Companion Pass, but if the spending limit is reached, a bonus of 30,000 points will be earned.

A Complete Guide To The Southwest Companion Pass In 2024
This option has quite a lot to offer.
From now through March 11, those who open a new Southwest Airlines credit card can receive the Companion Pass after spending $4,000 within the first three months. Chase offers three tiers of Southwest credit cards, each with different annual fees and benefits, but the lowest annual fee is $69. Only those without a Southwest Airlines credit card and who have not received a new card bonus within the last 24 months are eligible for the perk.
If earned, the Companion Pass will be available through 02/28/2025. Once the benefit is earned, the passenger must designate one person to travel with them for free until next year, only paying the taxes. For domestic roundtrips, the taxes are typically $11.20.

Recent Southwest news
Last week, Southwest announced a major revamp of several things, from its cabin to employee uniforms. It has been some time since Southwest announced it would update its seats with USB power. Last week, the airline announced it was updating its cabins with new seats, working with Tangerine, a design company specializing in transportation, and RECARO, which makes seats.
The details of the new cabin design will even be seen in the carpet, and the seats will complement those details. Armrests have been redesigned to maximize seat width, and new headrests will be added to increase head and neck support. The iconic Southwest Heart will be debossed on the headrests, while the seats will feature the brand’s sunray pattern. In addition to charging ports, new armrests, and headrests, device holders will be available, as Southwest does not have inflight entertainment (IFE) screens on its aircraft.
Sometime in the future, Southwest’s uniforms will be updated, the airline unveiled. While not many details are available, the airline did say more than 75 employees were brought together to form a ‘Uniform Inspiration Team’ to work with Design Collective by Cintas and fashion stylist Bonnie Markel. Together, the group designed uniforms that will be worn by more than 53,000 staff.
Late last month, Southwest’s pilots became the last of the four major airlines in the United States to agree to a new contract. The new deal will give pilots an immediate 29% raise and nearly 50% in the first few years.
