The Australian business aviation industry has been put through the wringer these past few months, with all manner of dirty linen aired in front of presidency committees, through the media, and online. Much of that has been directed at Qantas, but there was also a variety of discontent about frequent flyer programs more broadly and the way difficult it’s to redeem points for flights.
Earn and spend options at the moment are open
With a fleet of 68 aircraft operating to 56 destinations spread around every Australian state, Rex offers loads of options for earning and redeeming frequent flyer points. In October, Rex, Australia’s largest independent regional and domestic airline, launched its Rex Flyer loyalty program. Today, it confirmed that members can now use their points to book flights across its network.

This yr, Rex has come of age within the highly competitive domestic market and can finish the yr with a fleet of ten Boeing 737-800s operating routes to major Australian destinations, including Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Canberra, Adelaide, Hobart, Cairns and the Gold Coast. Next yr, it should add more 737-800s because it progresses towards its goal of linking every Australian capital city in its domestic network.
By introducing Rex Flyer, it added a brand new dimension to its product offering, and, as is its way, Rex has made it an open and transparent program that provides all members a good likelihood of redeeming their points for flights all year long. There isn’t any joining fee, and after signing up on the web site, (until January 2, 2024) latest members will find they have already got 5,000 points within the bank only for signing up.

So as to add slightly more to the offer, Rex can even give double reward points for bookings made by January 2, 2024, whatever the travel date, meaning latest members can hit the bottom running in time for the end-of-year holiday season. Passengers will receive as much as seven points for each dollar spent each time they fly and as much as five points per dollar spent on chosen Rex extras, like seat selection and baggage.
The second phase of Rex Flyer
In today’s announcement, Rex said the second phase of this system’s staggered rollout had been accomplished, enabling members to make use of their points to redeem flights with three flight reward options – Anytime, Getaway, and Ultimate. The Anytime option allows Rex Flyer members to redeem on a last-seat-available basis, which the airline said provides the best flexibility of all frequent flyer programs available in Australia.

Adding to its transparency, the Rex Flyer program sees all unsold seats progressively available on the Ultimate most cost-effective reward redemption rate from 48 hours before departure. Rex Deputy Chairman John Sharp said:
“This system with its superior advantages means we will eventually reward our passengers for the loyalty they’ve shown us over a few years as we fought hard – often against almost unimaginable odds – to supply them with protected, inexpensive and reliable air services.”
Reaching higher status levels is a serious motivator for frequent flyers, and Rex is opening with three levels – Sapphire, Emerald, and Diamond. To achieve Sapphire status, members must earn 1,500 points or take 12 Status Flights; for Emerald, it’s 3,000 points or 24 flights, and Diamond requires 6,000 points or 48 flights.

Those that reach the coveted Diamond level will enjoy 75% bonus points, complimentary lounge access, Rextra legroom seats, and three flight upgrades. The rollout is now moving into the third phase, which incorporates latest airport lounges at Adelaide, Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane Airports, and with greater than 60,000 members enrolled in only two months, they are going to soon get loads of use.
