Canadian carrier Porter Airlines’ expansion into the US continues with recent flights from Toronto and Ottawa to Fort Lauderdale in Florida. The airline already operates several flights to the Sunshine State and is currently eyeing several other international routes because it expands its fleet and network.
Flights to Fort Lauderdale
Porter Airlines’ presence in Florida received an additional boost after the launch of its each day non-stop flights from Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) and Ottawa International Airport (YOW) to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) on November 30.

The carrier deploys its Embraer E195-E2 aircraft on these routes, offering 132 seats in a two-by-two configuration with no middle seat. Passengers are also served complimentary beer, wine, and premium snacks. The airline can also be seeking to connect passengers to other Canadian destinations like Calgary, Edmonton, and Vancouver via Toronto and Ottawa. Porter will face competition from other carriers on each these routes, with Air Canada, Air Canada Rouge, and Flair Airlines also offering flights to Fort Lauderdale. FLL CEO/Director of Aviation Mark Gale feels that Porter’s service has began at the best time through the busy year-end season, with Canada being the primary international marketplace for Fort Lauderdale.
Recent expansion
The brand new services to Fort Lauderdale are a part of Porter Airlines’ larger expansion plans. Last month, the carrier launched each day flights from Toronto and Ottawa to Orlando using its Embraer E195-E2 aircraft. A couple of days before that, Porter had also launched a brand new service connecting Toronto and Fort Myers in Florida.

These recent flights are prone to do well as people from the northern regions look to travel towards warmer sunny locations, and Florida is one of the popular destinations for Canadians. Khalil Lamrabet, Chief Industrial Officer, Greater Toronto Airports Authority, commented,
“Last winter, Fort Lauderdale was essentially the most in-demand US route from Pearson. We’re excited to see Porter’s continued commitment to expanding its network at YYZ. Their growth is undoubtedly helping to satisfy demand while providing more selection for passengers.”
The airline has also expanded its Embraer E195-E2 order to 75 aircraft after exercising purchase rights for an extra 25 airframes. Because it builds its fleet, Porter can also be eyeing the Caribbean and Mexico for a few of its future destinations.
