The airline has begun its recruitment of assorted cockpit and cabin positions to start in 2024. City Airlines is hoping to rent as much as 200 crew colleagues for its entry into service.
Recent recruitment campaign
The most recent Lufthansa Group airline is hoping to start its operations in the summertime of 2024. Early preparations for its entry have begun with the airline starting a brand new recruiting campaign. Initially, the airline is preparing to rent as much as 200 experienced employees and is offering attractive salaries and dealing conditions.

City Airlines also stated that the airline is in search of English-speaking pilots to use as well, which aligns with the airline’s long-term strategy. The airline also mentioned that transferring inside the Lufthansa Group is inspired. The Chief Operating Officer of City Airlines, Jens Fehlinger, spoke concerning the recent campaign, saying,
“We’re getting began and creating prospects for brand spanking new and experienced colleagues with attractive working conditions in Germany. Our guests on board can sit up for a dedicated team and a flight experience with the well-known Lufthansa quality on their flights with City Airlines.”
The airline plans to start operations with the Airbus A319, so crew members will begin training on that aircraft. City Airlines hopes to start training its recent set of hires in early 2024 to arrange them for the airline’s launch in the summertime.
Latest Lufthansa subsidiary
City Airlines is the newest airline to be founded inside Lufthansa Group. The group also includes Lufthansa, Eurowings, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, and a number of other other subsidiaries. Nonetheless, the Lufthansa Group created City Airlines to fill several small holes in its current route network. The airline was created to have two hubs in Munich and Frankfurt. It plans to operate mostly narrowbody aircraft out of those bases and fly to markets that its existing subsidiary Lufthansa CityLine cannot.
City Airlines was founded in the summertime of 2022 and was unveiled by the Lufthansa Group in March 2023. It received its Air Operator’s Certificate (AOC) in June 2023 from Germany’s Luftfahrt-Bundesamt (LBA).

The airline currently only operates one aircraft, which is an Airbus A319. The aircraft, registered as D-AILX, was originally delivered to Lufthansa in 1998. It was transferred to Lufthansa CityLine in May 2023, but City Airlines took delivery of the aircraft shortly after.
City Airlines is ready to start service operating the Airbus A319 aircraft. Nonetheless, the airline can also be evaluating the potential for adding other aircraft types to the fleet, including Airbus A220s or Embraer E2 aircraft. That is attributable to the airline hoping to cover mainly short and medium-haul routes from its two hubs in Frankfurt and Munich. The Lufthansa Group can also be planning to have City Airlines operate feeder flights for Lufthansa. In the long run, the carrier will look to expand its fleet to as many as 80 narrowbody aircraft or smaller.
