Glasgow-based Loganair has opened applications for the third round of its GreenSkies community fund campaign. Launched in 2021, GreenSkies backs non-profits and community organizations across the UK working towards slashing carbon emissions. Although Loganair’s green efforts have had a specific deal with decarbonizing aviation, the funding extends outside the aviation industry, supporting small-scale renewable energy projects and backing the carrier’s commitments to net zero by 2040.
Recent funding projects include St Barbe Museum and Art Gallery in Southampton, which was awarded £5,000 ($6,200) from Loganair’s £57,000 ($70,000) GreensSkies Community Fund to put in a ground source heat pump, slashing energy bills and contributing to lowered emissions through the community, and Glansin Glass Visitors Center within the Shetland Islands, with a £4,000 ($5,000) grant used to put in an electrical vehicle (EV) charging point.

The newest round of funding will see £30,000 ($37,000) added to the community pot, with submissions running through until October 31 on Loganair’s website. Loganair looks to support the installation of local projects, akin to solar panels and hydropower units, but unfortunately, it cannot fund ongoing research projects. In a press release shared by the carrier, CEO Jonathan Hinkles explained,
On-going sustainability support
Funding for the GreenSkies program currently comes out of each fare, with Loganair adding a small mandatory charge to every fare, then invested into carbon offsetting schemes.
