Next-Generation Dual Thermal-Visible Cameras Optimized for Performance and Efficiency
Teledyne FLIR, a division of Teledyne Technologies Incorporated, has unveiled its latest iteration of high-performance Hadron 640 dual radiometric thermal and visual camera modules. The newly released ITAR-free Hadron 640+ and radiometric Hadron 640R+ are designed to supply enhanced thermal sensitivity and are optimized for size, weight, and power (SWaP) for seamless integration into unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), unmanned ground vehicles (UGV), robotic platforms, and AI applications utilizing Teledyne FLIR Prism™ software.
Michael Walters, Vice President Product Management at Teledyne FLIR, highlighted some great benefits of the Hadron 640 series: “The Hadron 640 series gives integrators the chance to deploy AI-ready, high-performance dual-camera modules into small unmanned systems where SWaP, performance, run time, and battery life are mission critical.” He further emphasized the advantages of the Prism AI detection, tracking, and classification models, stating that they provide “super-resolution, turbulence mitigation, contrast enhancement, and more, Hadron 640 also enables effective AI-based applications.”
The brand new Hadron 640 modules feature a 640 x 512 resolution Boson+ longwave infrared (LWIR) camera module, boasting thermal sensitivity of 20 millikelvin (mK) or higher. This enables the camera to operate effectively in total darkness, smoke, fog, and glare, ensuring continuous operational awareness. The Hadron 640R+ model provides precise temperature measurements for each pixel within the scene. Moreover, the inclusion of a 64MP visible camera enables the Hadron 640 series to capture each thermal and visual imagery inside a single compact module.
George Matus, CTO of Red Cat, praised the collaboration with Teledyne FLIR, stating, “Continued collaboration with Teledyne FLIR enables rapid payload and performance innovation for Teal drones, accelerates time to market, and equips warfighters with one of the best possible technology for operational success.” He added that the Hadron 640 series offers “enhanced thermal sensitivity and HD visible cameras to offer superior performance inside a compact package for the support of our NATO allies and the U.S. Army’s Short Range Reconnaissance Tranche 2 program of record.”
To streamline development and reduce costs for integrators and original equipment manufacturer (OEM) product developers, the Hadron 640 series is obtainable as an entire system from a single supplier. This includes drivers for leading processors from NVIDIA, Qualcomm, and others, together with comprehensive integration support and repair from Teledyne FLIR experts.
All Hadron 640 series products are classified under US Department of Commerce jurisdiction and can be found for purchase globally through Teledyne FLIR and its authorized dealers. For more information or to buy, visit Teledyne FLIR’s Hadron 640 page.
