On Wednesday, a LATAM Airlines Brasil Airbus A321, registration PT-MXM, suffered a runway tour after landing at Florianopolis International Airport (FLN), which forced the closure of the Brazilian airport. The efforts to remove the aircraft from the runway took over a day and were accomplished on Thursday.
What happened?
This week, LATAM Brasil Florianópolisg flight LA330 between São Paulo Guarulhos and Florianópolis. After landing, within the midst of heavy rain, the aircraft (a 2014-built Airbus A321-231) skidded, and the front half of the fuselage ended off the runway. The region faced an extra-tropical cyclone alert this week.
Onboard the flight, there have been 172 passengers and 7 crew members. They were safely disembarked and released after evaluation by the medical team, LATAM said in an announcement. Florianópolis airport was closed after the incident.
On Thursday, LATAM Brasil informed that the recovery team concluded the strategy of removing the aircraft from the runway. After that, the airport was reopened, and airlines could restart their operations. In line with data from Cirium, FLN has about 287 weekly departures (averaging 41 per day). Azul, GOL, Sky Airline, and LATAM operate flights from this airport, primarily domestic, although some international services to regional destinations comparable to Buenos Aires and Santiago de Chile exist.

From Florianópolis, LATAM flies six times every week to Brasília (BSB), 49 times every week to São Paulo Congonhas (CGH), 35 times every week to São Paulo Guarulhos (GRU), and twice day by day to Rio de Janeiro Santos Dumont (SDU).
The plane involved within the incident
LATAM Airlines Brasil has a fleet composed of 141 aircraft, including 19 Airbus A319ceos, 61 A320ceos, 12 A320neos, 31 A321ceos, two Boeing 767-300ERs, ten B777-300ERs, and 6 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners.
The plane involved on this week’s incident is an A321-200 owned by SMBC Aviation Capital. It was first delivered in February 2014 and has only operated flights for one airline in its entire history, LATAM Airlines Brasil.
Prior to the incident, this plane operated flight LA3349 between Rio de Janeiro (GIG) and São Paulo (GRU) on Wednesday. In previous days, it also flew to other Brazilian cities comparable to Cuiabá, Maceió, Recife, Salvador, and Porto Alegre.
