The South American ultra-low-cost carrier JetSMART is celebrating its seventh anniversary in style by receiving the twenty fifth aircraft of its fleet, an Airbus A321neo registration CC-AWY, which has the mighty ñandu, or South American ostrich, painted on its tail.
A brand new plane for JetSMART
JetSMART, a Chilean ultra-low-cost carrier with domestic brands in Argentina and Peru (and possibly Colombia in the longer term), is celebrating on July 25 the seventh anniversary of its foundation and 6 years of operations. Throughout this time, the Indigo Partners-backed company has transported greater than 20 million passengers in South America.
Moreover, the airline received on July 2 a brand new Airbus A321neo, registration CC-AWY. That is the twenty fifth plane the airline has on its fleet, which is split between the three domestic branches across South America: JetSMART Chile has 13, including the brand new CC-AWY, while JetSMART Argentina operates nine planes and JetSMART Peru just three. The airline still expects to receive about 100 recent aircraft from Airbus, including 14 A321XLRs.

In accordance with data from FlightRadar24.com, the plane departed from Airbus headquarters in Hamburg on June 30 en path to Reykjavik. There it refueled before flying to Gander, in Canada, where it stayed the night. On July 1, it departed from Gander to San José, Costa Rica, on a 7:11 hours flight. The following day, the plane finished its lengthy journey, flying from San José to Santiago de Chile in a 6:17 hours flight.
JetSMART didn’t lose any time putting this recent plane in business service. On July 3, it operated its first passenger flight between Santiago and Iquique. Since then, it has performed over 120 flights for the Chilean company.
A brand new bird livery for JetSMART
JetSMART is thought for putting images of endangered and/or endemic animals within the tails of its Airbus narrowbody fleet. In that sense, JetSMART does the identical as its close cousin, US low-cost carrier Frontier Airlines.

The brand new Airbus A321neo JetSMART recently received has a ñandú, also often called Rhea or South American ostrich, painted on its tail. Rheas are from South America only and are limited inside the continent to Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay, Peru, and Uruguay.
Other animals painted on JetSMART’s tails include Samy, the bottlenose dolphin; Wanda, the South American sea lion; Vicky, the vicuña; Alejo, the condor; and Yaguareté, the jaguar.
Looking forward
Estuardo Ortiz, Chief Executive Officer at JetSMART, celebrated the airline’s anniversary with an optimistic viewpoint by expecting to hold over 100 million passengers in its history and receive not less than 100 aircraft by 2028. he added.
Since launching, JetSMART has reached several milestones, including opening domestic branches in other South American countries and signing a partnership with American Airlines. This alliance allows each carriers to codeshare flights between the US and Chile.
