Jet2 will open a brand-new base at Liverpool next summer, its eleventh within the UK and fourth in northern England. With 4 Boeing 737-800s, 20 destinations might be served, of which seven aren’t linked by other carriers in summer 2023. It raises questions on the competitive response of incumbent airlines, especially easyJet, which might be its primary competitor.
Jet2 to begin latest Liverpool base
It can kick off on March twenty eighth, just a few days before airlines within the Northern Hemisphere switch to summer schedules. That day, Jet2’s first Liverpool flight is predicted to go away at 08:00 for Tenerife South. Come the height month of August, Jet2 plans 43 weekly departures from Liverpool.

While things may change as easyJet and Ryanair’s summer 2024 schedules aren’t yet available, Jet2 can have no direct competition to Burgas, Gran Canaria, Maderia, Menorca, Paphos, Rhodes, or Zakynthos. All except Madeira have been previously served from Liverpool, some as recently as 2021.
Near Manchester
Liverpool is lower than an hour’s drive to Manchester, Jet2’s largest base. In fact, the leisure carrier is used to bases being positioned close together: Leeds Bradford is pretty near Manchester, likewise East Midlands and Birmingham.

As expected, all 20 destinations are already served by Jet2 from Manchester. By now, Manchester has grown to such a level for Jet2 that it must surely not be overly nervous about cannibalizing it from Liverpool.

Burgas was very briefly served by Wizz Air in 2021, the 12 months badly impacted by coronavirus. Based on UK CAA data, it carried 2,802 roundtrip passengers. Given the pandemic and no holiday division, it only achieved a 56% load factor, but Jet2 will undoubtedly perform considerably higher.
