Southwest is the USA’s third-domestic airline, based on analyzing June flights using OAG data. Nonetheless, it could be primary if seats on the market were examined as a substitute, the results of its all-Boeing 737 fleet, much higher seats per flight than other key players, and its vast activity.
Denver is Southwest’s #1 airport
Southwest serves 121 airports in June, of which Denver has more flights than another. In June 2019, OAG indicates that Chicago Midway was primary. While Midway departures are down by 1.7%, Denver has expanded by over 1 / 4 (+25.9%) and Las Vegas by over a fifth (+21.3%).

Southwest has 92 Denver routes within the examined period, 26 greater than in June 2019. The carrier’s much greater activity implies that it has 30% of Denver’s overall flights, up from 23.6%. Yet, as you would possibly expect, the Colorado airport barely features in Southwest’s top 10 routes.

The short 258-mile (416 km) link between Las Vegas and San Diego has more flights than another route within the analyzed time:

Southwest coexists with 4 other carriers between Las Vegas and San Diego. There’s Spirit (18 weekly), JSX (9 weekly), Frontier (each day), and Allegiant (twice-weekly). Southwest has about three-quarters of flights.
21 airports have been added since 2019
As stated earlier, Southwest serves 121 airports in June. Some 21 have been added since 2019, while one has been cut: Newark. The carrier launched the Latest Jersey airport in 2011 and it had a complete of 16 routes. Because it decided to consolidate its Greater NYC service on LaGuardia, Newark resulted in November 2019.

As for the additions, there was a giant emphasis on each outdoor destinations – a consequence of the pandemic – and a few very busy airports. These at the moment are served:
Bellingham, Bozeman, Chicago O’Hare, Colorado Springs, Cozumel, Destin-Fort Walton Beach, Eugene, Fresno, Hilo, Houston Bush, Jackson, Lihue; Miami, Montrose, Myrtle Beach, Palm Springs, Sarasota, Santa Barbara, Savannah, Steamboat Springs, and Syracuse.

Only two of those – Houston Bush and Jackson – have seen Southwest before. Bush was one in every of its original airports in 1971, and last had the airline in 2005, while Mississippi’s capital was served until 2014.
