India’s largest airline, IndiGo, has announced a brand new service between Hyderabad within the Indian state of Telangana and Colombo, Sri Lanka’s capital. The airline, which already serves Colombo from Bengaluru and Chennai, will even compete with SriLankan Airlines on the Hyderabad route.

IndiGo has announced that it’ll start flying between Hyderabad and Colombo from November 2nd. The airline will probably be the primary from India to operate this route. All this has been done at the same time as IndiGo has nearly 40 aircraft grounded as a result of the continued issue with Pratt & Whitney. It’s also gearing up for more grounding as a result of the P&W engine recalls. Nonetheless, the airline has been granted approval by India’s aviation regulator to wet lease several Airbus A320s to take care of capability for the increasing passenger demand.
India-Sri Lanka market
IndiGo is considered one of several carriers to operate flights to Sri Lanka’s capital, Colombo. It currently flies to Colombo from Bengaluru and Chennai with a complete of 180 monthly return flights. SriLankan Airlines is the most important player on this sector, with the airline flying to 10 destinations in India – Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Coimbatore, Kochi, Hyderabad, Madurai, Chennai, Thiruvananthapuram, and Tiruchirappalli.

Other major airlines flying between the 2 countries include Air India, Vistara, and SpiceJet. Alliance Air also has a each day flight between Chennai and Jaffna in North Sri Lanka. In all, there are greater than 1,200 monthly return flights between India and Sri Lanka, currently.
