Cockroaches in IndiGo plane galley
The 20-second clip was posted to X (formerly Twitter) by journalist Tarun Shukla and shows at the least two cockroaches crawling across the inside a storage area of an aircraft galley. The clip’s context is not clear and it’s without sound, so it’s not known if the plane was mid-flight or on the bottom.
On the very starting of the video, what appears to be some food waste might be seen at the underside. At this stage, it’s not known which aircraft this was in, however it was likely an Airbus A320-family jet, which make up the vast majority of the airline’s fleet.
IndiGo responds
IndiGo has taken responsibility for the unsanitary incident and immediately called for its entire fleet to be fumigated and disinfected. The incident has raised questions on the standards of cleanliness onboard IndiGo’s aircraft, an area the carrier has faced criticism in before. Hygiene around food preparation areas is especially vital for passenger safety and health – worryingly, the realm where the cockroaches were spotted might have been where meals are stored before they’re served.

In an announcement, the airline said,
Not the primary time
IndiGo has faced complaints about unsanitary conditions onboard its aircraft before. In an incident last April, a passenger onboard an IndiGo flight filmed a cockroach that crawled onto his tray table while he was eating.
And earlier this month, an IndiGo passenger allegedly found a screw of their sandwich, while one other passenger discovered a worm inside their vegetarian sandwich, ultimately prompting an apology from the airline. The Indian aviation industry has been working hard to enhance the passenger experience, with many complaining about poor customer support and conditions on aircraft and in airports. IndiGo was involved in one more incident this month after a para-athlete alleged the airline mistreated her during a flight, even damaging her wheelchair.
