Summary
- IndiGo, India’s largest carrier, will pause its direct service between Bengaluru and Kanpur as a result of the grounding of multiple aircraft for maintenance, causing disappointment amongst locals and Kanpur’s business community.
- The grounding is essential to deal with technical engine issues, with 30 aircraft already grounded and an extra 40 to follow in January as directed by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation.
- Despite high post-pandemic demand, limited aircraft availability has forced the airline to chop routes temporarily. IndiGo plans to resume all routes once maintenance is accomplished.
India’s largest carrier by market share, IndiGo, looks to pause its direct service between Bengaluru and Kanpur, much to the frustration of locals. The airline serves the route each day between Kempegowda International Airport Bengaluru (BLR) and Kanpur Airport (KNU) within the state of Uttar Pradesh.
Business locals of Kanpur were so disillusioned that they took their frustration to the Indian Merchant Chamber of Commerce, which contacted the carrier, reiterating its route suspension as a result of the grounding of multiple aircraft for maintenance.

IndiGo Becomes The First Indian Airline To Fly 100 Million Passengers In A 12 months
The airline has reached several milestones in 2023.
Kanpur airport redevelopment
The airport is 17 kilometers (10.56 miles) from the Kanpur city center. Previously restricted in size, the Airports Authority of India decided to extend capability for projected future demand. A brand new terminal was constructed on the eastern end of the airport, at 6,200 square meters (66,000 square feet). It provides a waiting and boarding area for around 400 passengers and eight check-in desks.
It opened on May twenty sixth earlier this yr, and latest flights commenced from the terminal on June seventh. A reputation change has also been proposed for the airport: ‘Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Airport.’ Ganesh was a well known Indian journalist and led the Indian National Congress.
