Icelandair announced on Thursday a brand new route connecting Keflavik International Airport (KEF) with Vágar Airport (FAE) within the Faroe Islands. This latest seasonal route, to be launched next yr, will improve the connectivity between the 2 North Atlantic islands.
Increased connectivity within the North Atlantic
The Faroe Islands, positioned between Iceland and Scotland, are growing in popularity as a destination known for spectacular nature (I mean, who wouldn’t prefer to photograph the Múlafossur Waterfall or walk across the otherworldly views of Geituskorardrangur, for instance).

With that in mind, Icelandair has announced a brand new seasonal route between Iceland and the Faroe Islands. Specifically, the flag carrier will connect Reykjavik’s Keflavik Airport with Vágar Airport, the primary gateway to the Danish autonomous territory. Icelandair will operate between five and 6 flights every week from the start of May 2024 through to October 2024. These flights will happen within the morning, with convenient connection times on to Icelandair’s network in Europe and North America.
Partnership with the Faroe Islands’ flag carrier
As of June 2023, one airline flies between the Faroe Islands and Iceland. That airline is Atlantic Airways, a small company with a fleet of 4 Airbus A320 aircraft (two ceos and two neos). The carrier operates three weekly flights between FAE and KEF.

The Icelandic flag carrier has recently been within the news for several interesting announcements. Earlier this week, Icelandair and Turkish Airlines announced a codeshare partnership that can allow easy, convenient connections through Istanbul International Airport.

Icelandair also began flying seasonal flights to Prague (PRG), the capital city of the Czech Republic, using the carrier’s Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft. This route is operated with 4 weekly flights on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays through to October 2023.
