US low-cost carrier Frontier Airlines is shaking up its summer schedule by announcing 17 latest routes to start in May. The flights are from a wide selection of cities across the US and one destination within the Caribbean.
A summertime shift

This latest announcement follows that trend with probably the most significant number of recent additions on the world’s busiest airport.
Why Is Frontier Airlines Targeting Big Cities In Its Shifting Network Strategy?
The carrier’s network strategy is slowly shifting.
The brand new routes come on the expense of flights from Las Vegas and Orlando, markets CEO Barry Biffle previously indicated faced a surplus of capability, and this month’s significant increases at Cincinnati, Philadelphia, and Cleveland. Josh Flyr, Vice President of Network and Operations Design at Frontier Airlines, commented on the brand new additions:

Where are the brand new destinations coming in May?
The airport featuring probably the most additions is Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL). Frontier is launching flights to 4 destinations from the Georgia airport, all operating thrice weekly. The low-cost carrier will compete directly with home carrier Delta Air Airlines on all but one route. Frontier can be the one carrier on the link to Long Island MacArthur Airport (ISP) in Islip, offering an indirect alternative to crowded Latest York City airports.

California’s Ontario International Airport (ONT) will receive three latest destinations. The Los Angeles area airport will see links to 2 significant hub airports and El Paso, Texas. Houston Intercontinental’s (IAH) home carrier, United Airlines, competes directly with a each day flight and not directly to John Wayne Airport (SNA) in Orange County. Southwest Airlines serves Ontario from Houston Hobby Airport (HOU).

In El Paso, Frontier will compete not directly with American Airlines and Southwest out of Los Angeles (LAX), with the latter also serving the Texas city from Long Beach (LGB). Along with Ontario, Frontier will link El Paso to San Diego (SAN) thrice weekly, starting May sixteenth.

Chicago and two Portlands
Frontier is adding three routes from Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD). The house of Country Music is about to be connected to the Windy City with a thrice-weekly service to Nashville (BNA) starting May sixteenth. Also set to start that day is one other thrice-weekly service connecting the town to Portland International Jetport (PWM) in Maine. The next day, Frontier will inaugurate a flight to Houston Intercontinental (IAH), which can run 4 times per week.
Speaking of Portland, Frontier can also be adding flights from Portland International Airport (PDX) in Oregon. A thrice-weekly service to Salt Lake City (STL) will begin May sixteenth.
