Delta Air Lines is celebrating 70 years of flights to US island of Puerto Rico. Delta Air Lines connects Puerto Rico with five hub cities and is a source of economic stimuli for Puerto Rico.
Humble beginnings to jet setting today
Delta’s operations to Puerto Rico actually began with legacy carrier Chicago and Southern Air Lines services in 1953. The airline flew the Lockheed Constellation, popularly often known as “Connie,” carrying only 57 passengers to the capital of San Juan. In 1953, Delta Air Lines’ first purchase was Chicago and Southern Airlines, bringing the flights to San Juan under its own name.

Additional gratitude was relayed by Brad Dean, CEO of Discover Puerto Rico saying,
This shows that, despite the numerous economic challenges facing our industry, airlines like Delta are betting on our destination. These additional flights help to have higher direct access from key markets for Puerto Rican tourism and permit us to stimulate and grow the demand of our market.
Ultimately, it appears Delta Air Lines will lead in providing Puerto Rico with economic stimuli via tourism. The last word goes to Delta Air Lines’ Director Khan;
“We’re also grateful to the area people. We remain committed to being the airline that gives them with outstanding and reliable service to points throughout the globe and the airline that continues to bring latest visitors to find this beautiful island.”
