In its announcement, Perth Airport (PER) said the four-week seasonal trial over Chinese Recent 12 months will include three nonstop flights weekly between Perth and Shanghai Pudong (PVG) until February 17, 2024. Perth Airport Chief Operating Officer Scott Woodward said the brand new route was achieved through a partnership with the West Australian State Government and Tourism WA, and it should help construct the profile of Perth and Western Australia as a destination for Chinese visitors.
“Shanghai is just 10 hours away on this nonstop flight from Perth, providing the right opportunity to experience the traditionally flamboyant and vibrant celebration of Chinese Recent 12 months. We stay up for constructing a robust partnership with China Eastern Airlines to make sure the trial’s success and hopefully see the airline operate a year-round service at Perth Airport in the longer term.”
The inaugural service departed Shangai Pudong on Friday, January 19 at 01:12 and after a 9:19 hour flight landed in Perth at 10:31. Flight MU7389 was operated with a 2015 Airbus A330-200, registration B-8231 and MSN 1664, which has recently been flying each domestically and internationally, including to Beijing Capital (PEK), Taipei Taoyuan (TPE), Tokyo Narita (NRT) and Bali Denpasar (DPS).

the Perth Airport schedule, China Eastern flights are currently operating on Monday, Thursday and Saturday, arriving in Perth at 10:00 and departing at 12:30. Australia relies heavily on air cargo for its time-sensitive exports and imports, and the addition of three A330s weekly brings the added bonus of significantly more belly-hold freight capability.
This latest direct link between Perth and Shanghai, albeit a brief seasonal service at this stage, will profit business and leisure tourism while also enhancing the export of fresh produce to the markets of China and Asia.
