The flag carrier of Columbia, Avianca, has once more topped the list for On-Time Performance (OTP) within the Global category for the month of August. Cirium released its monthly report for August, and Avianca secured the crown with 86.86% on-time arrivals. The carrier was within the number two place last month, behind one other Central American airline, LATAM Airlines.
Cirium’s monthly reporting on OTPs
Cirium provides monthly OTP reports for global, regional, and low-cost airline categories. The corporate records the arrival times of all flights (reported by individual airlines) and defines OTP because the flights that arrive inside quarter-hour of the scheduled arrival time.
The OPT figures include all flights inside the airline brand and successfully reported to the firm. Cirium also mandates airlines to have a minimum of an 80% OTP to be eligible for the monthly reporting. The rankings also show the proportion of total flights reported through the period to make sure merit.
Securing the worldwide OTP crown, once more!
Securing the primary position within the Global category just isn’t latest to Avianca. The airline received the title of essentially the most punctual airline in June, with 86.61% OTP. This time around, 99.34% of all flights were tracked for Avianca. The airline is ahead by just over one percent from the second (Qatar Airways 85.77%) and third (Iberia 85.76%).

Listings for the rest seven within the top-ten global category are Azul (85.37%), Delta Air Lines (82.80%), LATAM Airlines (82.52%), United Airlines (81.51%), Aeromexico (80.60%), Saudia (80.14%), and Emirates (80.09%). The corporate tracked a complete of 452,201 flights reflecting 99.33% of all flights. The highest ten performers show a median of 83.15%.
Within the regional and low-cost categories, AirAsia India topped the list within the Asia-Pacific region with 86.33% OTP, Delta Air Lines topped the North American region with 82.8%, Iberia topped Europe with 85.76%, Copa Airlines secured first in Latin America with 89.78%, Safair secured first in two categories, Middle East & Africa with a powerful 90.39%, and the low-cost carrier with a large 93.13%.
Avianca’s growing network and fleet
The airline has been within the news these days for all the great reasons. From changes to the core management team to the addition of recent routes, the airline is recovering well from the pandemic downturn. The airline recently announced changes in management, where multiple experienced individuals from inside the airline are stepping as much as top management positions. Other than the regular responsibilities, the brand new management is specializing in technology, infrastructure, and human talent.

With the recent liquidation of Viva Air, Avianca is eyeing the chance to fill the market gap by adding latest routes to its network and investing in newer, more technologically advanced aircraft. The airline recently announced it would add 16 Airbus A320neo family aircraft to extend its flight connectivity across Central America. The airline goals so as to add greater than 5,000 flights with nearly a million extra seats every month to its network.
