Austrian Airlines launched latest, expanded culinary offerings across its cabin classes this month. This expansion is available in the shape of its “Tastefully Austrian” dining concept for the airlines’ business class passengers, in addition to additions to the dining experiences for passengers flying in premium economy and economy class.
Business class experience
The airline emphasizes that its latest dining program offers its business class passengers more flexibility to customize their onboard meals. When passengers board their long-haul flight, they’ll sit up for a welcome drink and bar snack together with a soup.
During their flight, in-flight service will include an expanded number of international primary courses to select from, in addition to an Austrian signature dish, all of which may be customized to passenger liking.
Food service is organized and presented by an Austrian Airlines “Flying Chef,” an idea first introduced last month in April, concurrent with the airline’s launch of its larger latest brand orientation. Passengers even have the choice of selecting from a number of foods that may be served on the time of their alternative, providing passengers with additional flexibility.
Business class passengers even have access to a Viennese coffeehouse-style coffee and dessert service. With this offering, travelers can sit up for having a number of various coffees presented to them, which might be made right in front of them and served together with dessert.
Following the coffee house-style service, a cheese cart with digestive options might be presented within the cabin for passengers to make selections from as well.
Austrian Chief Operating Officer, Michael Trestl, said the airline’s primary aim for its updated food service offering is to offer passengers with a more individually tailored and uniquely Austrian experience. In accordance with Trestl, Austrian’s latest dining offerings are supposed to embody the corporate’s latest brand orientation by conveying hospitality and the “Austrian sense of home.”
“We aim to offer our guests with a flying piece of Austria – a culinary experience the Austrian way,” Trestl said. “Our goal is to spotlight Austrian hospitality and cuisine and offer our guests a person experience.”
Short and medium-haul flights proceed to supply passengers with dining options as well, including a to-go-style food box for business class passengers traveling on flights under 50 minus, in addition to cold dishes including muesli, hand-cut ham, or poke bowls with smoked salmon on flights between 50 to 80 minutes. These are served with dessert options as well, including panna cotta, apple strudel, or sachertorte.
Premium economy and economy class food services
Expansions to food service offerings in Austrian Airlines’ premium economy and economy class cabins also arrived this month as well on long-haul flights. These include latest menu options and recipes which can be offered in three-course and four-course menus, including two primary course options. Along with these menu offerings, premium economy and economy class passengers may even be served one other light dish or small breakfast.

Austrian’s latest food offerings come as Vienna Airport, the airline’s hub and headquarters location, is inside 10% of pre-pandemic travel numbers. The airport surpass 2019 travel volume this yr, leading each to stronger demand and better competition on the routes Austrian serves.
Many of the direct competition Austrian faces on routes from Vienna are flown by low-cost carriers like Wizz Air and Ryanair, for each of which Vienna is a spotlight city. Austrian, itself a subsidiary of Lufthansa Group, undoubtedly looks to set itself apart as a full-service carrier and to justify the associated costs that include that status by proving the worth it brings to travelers through amenities like its food service.
