LATAM Ecuador flew the aid from Quito to Santa Cruz Island aboard an Airbus A319, with support from LATAM Cargo Group. The shipment included food and hygiene kits and drinking water.
Key details
- The shipment weighed 12,800 kg.
- It included 1,000 food and hygiene kits and 9,600 litres of water.
- The A319 carried 6,700 kg in its hold and 6,100 kg on cabin seats.
- The operation ran under LATAM Airlines Group’s Solidarity Plane programme, which provides free air transport and logistics for health, environmental and emergency-response initiatives in South America.
The Airbus A319 carried 6,700 kg in its hold and 6,100 kg on cabin seats.
Why it matters
Baltra Airport could not accommodate the Boeing 767 freighter LATAM usually uses for these missions, so the airline carried the cargo in both the A319’s hold and cabin. The operation shows how an aircraft configured for passenger service can carry a substantial aid shipment when airport constraints shape aircraft choice.
