Sierra Nevada Corporation said it did not submit a bid for the Navy’s Undergraduate Jet Training System program. SNC said the current contract structure prevented it from responsibly bidding by the October 30 deadline.
Key details
- The UJTS program is intended to replace the Navy’s T-45 Goshawk training fleet, which prepares Navy and Marine Corps aviators for carrier aviation and tactical strike missions.
- The Navy estimates a contract award between July and September 2027.
- Lockheed Martin and Boeing had previously announced that they would not compete.
The Navy estimates it will award the UJTS contract between July and September 2027.
Why it matters
The T-45 fleet supports training for two military services and prepares aviators for carrier operations and tactical strike missions. SNC said it remains interested in naval jet training and could re-engage if the Navy changes its approach.
