Air Tahiti Nui said on November 3, 2026, from Papeete that it had signed with SpaceX to fit Starlink on every Boeing 787-9 it flies. The airline said the cabin internet will be free in every class, from takeoff to landing, including over water and remote airspace. It expects the installs in 2027.
Chief executive Lionel Guérin said passengers already treat high-speed connectivity as part of a successful trip, and that the airline is putting money into the product to keep that standard.
Key details
- Coverage claim: low-latency service of 25 to 30 milliseconds, with no traditional ocean or polar dead zones on long-haul sectors.
- Air Tahiti Nui flies Tahiti to Paris, Los Angeles, Auckland, Sydney, and Tokyo. Codeshares reach 90 airports on 131 routes, plus 49 interline deals.
- The carrier described the Starlink contract as the first phase of a broader cabin upgrade.
Since high-speed connectivity is now a fundamental part of a successful trip, we are naturally investing in this service—which truly matters to them—so that Air Tahiti Nui remains synonymous with excellence, comfort, and innovation.
Why it matters
Those Tahiti long-hauls spend hours over empty ocean, where older cabin internet drops out. A 2027 Starlink fit on the whole 787-9 fleet is how the airline said it will keep Paris, Los Angeles, Auckland, Sydney, and Tokyo passengers online for the whole sector.
