Key details
- The transfers are expected to span seven years, with the first aircraft anticipated before the end of 2026.
- Qantas Domestic CEO Markus Svensson said Qantas can adjust the transfer schedule as replacement aircraft arrive.
- Qantas placed an initial order for 28 Airbus A321XLRs in 2022 and later ordered 20 more.
- At the time of reporting, seven A321XLRs had joined Qantas’s fleet, with 41 remaining on order.
- AerFin described the purchase as the largest acquisition in its history.
The deal includes 44 Boeing 737-800s and their 88 CFM56-7B engines.
Why it matters
Qantas is bringing A321XLRs into its fleet as replacements for Boeing 737s. The adjustable transfer schedule links the outgoing aircraft’s handover to the arrival of replacement aircraft.
