On Wednesday, American Airlines announced a $125 million industrial redevelopment program for Terminal 8 at John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK). This project will feature a brand new Great Hall and produce greater than 60 recent shopping and restaurant offerings to the terminal.
Upgrading Terminal 8
With JFK’s Terminal 8 having recently been renovated in a project that cost $400 million, American Airlines, the Port Authority of Recent York and Recent Jersey, and Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield (URW) Airports have announced a brand new industrial redevelopment. This project will further enhance the passenger experience on the terminal, said American in an announcement. It can have a whole redesign and expansion of the concessions program, including dining, retail, duty-free shopping, performance space, and recent digitally enabled experiences for American’s customers, creating over 300 recent concessions jobs.

Meanwhile, American’s Vice President of Airport Affairs and Facilities, Amanda Zhang, added that the airline is looking forward to working with its project partners to deliver a transformative dining and shopping experience that represents the dynamic Recent York region. The airline wants to make sure a world-class experience at Terminal 8 and elevate the travel journey for purchasers and oneworld partners.
This redevelopment project doesn’t include the development of a second Admirals Club, American Airlines confirmed on Twitter.
The renewal of Terminal 8
Last yr, the Port Authority of Recent York unveiled the newly renovated Terminal 8 at JFK. American Airlines and British Airways invested $400 million within the redevelopment and expansion of Terminal 8. This included recent lounge spaces, five recent widebody gates, an expanded and upgraded baggage handling system, over 7,000 meters of additional terminal space, a brand new premium check-in area, and two recent lounges. The renovated terminal can accommodate about ten million passengers annually.
American Airlines at JFK
As of July 2023, American Airlines offers about 684 weekly departures from Recent York JFK Airport, putting up nearly 100,000 seats on the market. It’s the third largest carrier by weekly operations and seats in JFK, behind Delta (1,538 flights and 225,147 seats) and JetBlue (1,234 flights and 195,182 seats), in accordance with data from Cirium.

American Airlines’ foremost routes from JFK go to Miami International (63 weekly departures), Los Angeles (63 weekly departures), Boston (35 weekly departures, operated by Republic Airlines), Charlotte (35), and Raleigh Durham (33).
Internationally, American Airlines flies from JFK to 21 destinations, most with one day by day flight. Three routes have extra day by day flights, though. American operates two day by day services to Rome Fiumicino (FCO) and Toronto Pearson (YYZ) and 4 day by day flights to London Heathrow (LHR).
