With one other busy holiday season approaching, American Airlines has increased its capability across several routes within the US throughout the week of Thanksgiving. The airline will deploy more widebody aircraft on domestic flights than typically scheduled to accommodate more passengers.
A lot of the flights are between American’s hubs in Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas/Fort Price, Recent York, Los Angeles, Miami, Philadelphia, and Phoenix, but there are another destinations that can see the increased capability. With the busiest travel days of the 12 months traditionally falling on the Tuesday and Wednesday before Thanksgiving and the next Sunday, it seems that American is ready for the influx of travelers.
What’s latest?
In line with data from aviation analytics provider Cirium, American will use its Boeing 777-200, 787-8, and 787-9 Dreamliners on 15 domestic routes from November 20-27. Throughout the week, 285 domestic flights will probably be operated by widebodies. While some are existing routes that already see widebody planes all year long, others are latest.

All flights between Miami International Airport (MIA) and Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) are normally operated by narrowbody Airbus or Boeing aircraft, but on November 25, American will deploy the 777-200 that seats 273 passengers on one flight in each direction. The equipment upgrade offers additional seats as travelers will probably be returning home following the vacation.
Adding more seats before the vacation
On November 5, American began flying 4 day by day flights between Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) and MIA, also on the 777-200. The frequencies will proceed through November 27, except Thanksgiving itself, because the aircraft won’t operate any flights between the cities on the vacation.
Narrowbody aircraft also typically carry all passengers between Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), but on November 22, the 787-8 will operate one flight in each direction. The plane accommodates 234 passengers, boosting capability on the route before Thanksgiving. Cirium data shows that the 787-8 can even operate between MIA and Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) on the twenty second, with one flight each way.
Recent York & Phoenix
American has scheduled 12 flights between John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX) on the 777-200 throughout the holiday week. The aircraft will operate one flight in each direction except on November 20 and Thanksgiving. It offers 101 more seats than the 737 MAX 8, which often operates the entire route’s frequencies.

From the East Coast, American has scheduled widebodies to PHX from PHL and sometimes CLT throughout the holidays in recent times. JFK is a brand new addition and will probably be the carrier’s third widebody domestic route offered at PHX this month, after Dallas and Honolulu, operated by the 787-8 and 787-9, in line with Cirium.
