Together, we’re well-positioned to supply customers a comprehensive network between two of essentially the most robust economies on this planet.”
In one of the best interest of competition
While not confirming a starting date, American said it could begin the HND service The route might be its fourth every day nonstop flight to Haneda, after every day departures from Dallas/Fort Price International Airport (DFW) and two every day flights from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).

American Airlines And United Airlines Proceed Battle For Tokyo Haneda Slot
American desires to launch flights from Recent York JFK Airport; United Airlines from Houston Intercontinental.
In line with aviation journalist Seth Miller, the DOT determined that American’s proposal to serve HND from JFK would contribute to amongst other US carriers serving the airport. Delta Air Lines has essentially the most daytime US-Haneda slot pairs with six, United Airlines holds five, American has 4, and Hawaiian Airlines holds two. The department also concluded that American’s service would establish an east coast gateway to Haneda, despite United offering every day service from its hub at nearby Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR).
Fighting for slots
In a battle over slots, United proposed service from Houston to HND last 12 months. Attempting to steer the DOT away from approval of American’s proposal, United argued that the NYC area already has enough flights to Haneda between its service from EWR and JAL’s and All Nippon Airways’ existing service from JFK. The department United’s reasoning but ultimately favored American’s bid, as it could primarily be supported by NYC locals, in accordance with an announcement obtained by Miller.
“We have now considered United’s and the City of Houston’s arguments that the Recent York City/Newark area is overserved with Haneda service as JFK currently enjoys 4 every day flights to Haneda, and Newark-Haneda is served once every day. We tentatively find persuasive American’s arguments that traffic demand within the Recent York-Tokyo Market justifies additional Haneda service […]. Viewed along with the potential competitive advantages to be achieved through number of American, we tentatively find that additional service at Recent York (JFK) would offer the greater combination of public advantages.”
