American Airlines and Aer Lingus are making travel between the US and Ireland simpler, because of an update to their codeshare partnership. Passengers can now earn reciprocal points between the loyalty programs of every carrier.
It comes after the airlines began their partnership in January 2022. The expansion of the partnership gives travelers additional flight options, but they’re eligible depending on their booking class.
Earning just for now
The update reportedly went into effect on December 5. In line with AwardWallet, Aer Lingus might be an “earning-only” partner, while American will proceed to grow its partnership with the Irish carrier. Travelers enrolled in American’s AAdvantage frequent flyer program can now earn miles and loyalty points on Aer Lingus and affiliate-operated flights based on the value of their ticket, but the choice to redeem award travel just isn’t available. Nonetheless, American reportedly plans to permit redemption eligibility the airline told AwardWallet.
While Aer Lingus has had a relationship with American since early last yr, the airline formerly had a codeshare partnership with United Airlines. Despite the Chicago-based airline still being listed on the Irish carrier’s website, the 2 are not any longer partners, as their agreement officially ended on October 27.

Aer Lingus passengers have since been capable of book codeshare travel on American’s flights to several destinations, including Chicago, Albuquerque, Recent Mexico, Nashville, Tennessee, Dallas-Fort Value, Los Angeles, Seattle, San Francisco, San Jose, California, and Tucson, Arizona. American has placed its code on Aer Lingus flights between London and Dublin and from Dublin to Amsterdam, Birmingham, UK, London Gatwick, and Manchester.
Earning miles
The earning rates on Aer Lingus-operated and affiliated-operated airlines rely upon the ticket’s price, the passenger’s AAdvantage elite status, and the fare class booked on the flight. Travelers in business class with a booked fare class of J, C, D, I, or R or in economy class with Y, B, H, K, L, M, N, S, V, G, O, Q, F, Z, or A can earn miles on their Aer Lingus flight whether it is credited to AAdvantage, in accordance with AwardWallet.
While the quantity of AAdvantage miles and Loyalty Points earned are based on the ticket’s price, the bonuses are linked to the respective level of the traveler’s AAdvantage status:

oneworld partners
In line with LoyaltyLobby, Aer Lingus AerClub members also can earn Avios on Amercian’s flights. The airline can be a part of the International Airlines Group (IAG), which owns British Airways and Iberia. With partnerships with all three airlines, a part of the oneworld Alliance, travelers have much more options.

In 2018, Aer Lingus also began a codeshare agreement with Alaska Airlines – one other oneworld member, in addition to with Air Canada and JetBlue Airways. Although Aer Lingus is a component of the IAG, it just isn’t considered a member of the oneworld Alliance. Nonetheless, it has been rumored that the airline is considering formally joining within the second quarter of 2025, in accordance with flyertalk.
Easy Flying has not independently verified whether the airline will join the alliance at the moment.
