On Thursday, January 25, an American Airlines Airbus A321-200 was diverted to Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport (MSP) after the plane suffered an engine stall. The flight was scheduled from Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) to Portland International Airport (PDX). Still, it was back on the bottom inside two hours and thirty minutes of departure.

The flight in query was American Airlines flight AA-1849. The flight, operated on a ten-year-old Airbus A321-211 registered N153UW, departed Charlotte Douglas at 18:32 (local time). It was intended to reach in Portland, Oregon, five hours and forty-three minutes later, at 21:00 (local time).
The incident occurred somewhat over an hour and fifty minutes into the flight after departure from CLT’s runway 18C when the aircraft was at an altitude of 32,000 feet (FL320). The A321 was on track around 170 nautical miles south of Minneapolis, Minnesota, when the crew declared an emergency, reporting that their left-hand (#1 engine) CFM56 engine had stalled and descended to 24,000 fleets (FL240) and would want to divert to Minneapolis. The aircraft then descended and landed on runway 12R at MSP at 19:53 (local time), around 45 minutes after starting its descent from 32,000 feet.

The A321-200 that suffered the incident has remained in Minneapolis since landing and has been taken out of service. The explanation for the engine stall remains to be being investigated.
