Allegiant & Flight Attendants Agree Tentative Contract Deal

Allegiant Air and the Transport Staff Union of America, AFL-CIO Local 577, which represents the ultra-low-cost carrier Allegiant’s nearly 1,900 flight attendants, have arrived at a five-year tentative agreement after only 10 months of collective bargaining, pending the union membership’s ratification.

The agreement increases compensation improvements corresponding to a commission from Allegiant items sold on board and improves the standard of life for flight attendants.

Each parties joyful

In a joint June 9 statement, each Allegiant and TWU 577 publicly shared their pleasure at reaching a tentative agreement. As Allegiant president Greg Anderson shared,

“We would love to commend the labor and dedication of the negotiating teams for each Allegiant and the TWU for meaningfully improving our contract on behalf of our flight attendants. This historic deal reflects our shared commitment of fostering a piece environment that properly recognizes the invaluable contributions they supply. We look ahead to the subsequent step in the method.”

TWU 577 also issued thoughts of their very own with Christa Gifford, President of TWU Local 577, offering;

“The Tentative Agreement will catapult our workgroup to the highest of the Low-Cost Carriers and greatly improve the standard of life for everybody. The TWU 577 Negotiating Team is happy with the work that has been done by either side to achieve this historic second Contract.”

Commissions for flight attendants

Certainly one of the brand new advantages of the contract is that Allegiant flight attendants can now win commissions for selling stuff onboard as additional compensation. So what does Allegiant sell?

Allegiant offers on the market beverages, snacks and even alcoholic spirits on board. From Aperol Spritz – a $12.99 cocktail – to Johnnie Walker Blue – a $34.99 scotch – by the bottle, expensive alcohol is obtainable.

Moreover, for the more family-friendly items, there are a number of potato chips, snack packs, bottled water for $2.99 a bottle, canned juices and sodas for $3.99 a can, and even bottled coffee for $4.99 apiece.

So, offering a commission to flight attendants seems appropriate. In spite of everything, on Alaska Airlines, the creator can attest that passengers get water, juices, and sodas at no cost – but alcoholic beverages and meals require payment. Versus Ryanair, where in response to The Telegraph in 2017, Ryanair flight attendants can lose their schedule seniority for not selling enough extras on board.

Other Allegiant flight attendant contract improvements

But commissions aren’t the one Allegiant flight attendant contract improvements. There’ll now be a minimum day pay or a guaranteed minimum payment for a day worked.

Moreover, for a ULCC, Allegiant is amazingly capable of improve the “retirement advantages, sick accrual, bonus flight hour calculations, vacation pay, annual vacation allocation and flex time” of flight attendants, in response to the June 9 statement.
