The Romanian Ministry of National Defence said two drones entered northeastern airspace without authorization on Saturday evening, October 31, 2026, from the Moldova direction. It said the Romanian Air Force launched four F-16s on air-policing duty from Baza 71 Câmpia Turzii and Baza 86 Borcea, and an IAR-330 SOCAT helicopter.
Defense Minister Radu Oprea said protecting the population and national airspace was the priority. The ministry later said one drone left national airspace, the second was last seen between Vaslui and Bacău, and no aerial vehicles were reported down.
Key details
- RO-Alert counties named by the ministry: Iași, Neamț, Vaslui, Botoșani, Bacău, and Suceava.
- Population alerts in those counties ended at 19:19 local time.
- The ministry said it is still watching the air picture and briefing allied structures.
Radar systems detected two drones that entered national airspace without authorization in northeastern Romania.
Why it matters
A four-ship F-16 scramble plus an IAR-330 SOCAT put Romanian air policing on the same Saturday night record as a six-county RO-Alert.
What happens next
The ministry said it is still watching the air picture. Does it name where the second drone went after the Vaslui-Bacău track?
