Helsing announced Contra as an autonomous system designed to coordinate air defense against large-scale drone and missile attacks. The company also introduced two interceptor designs: the jet-powered AD-1 Inferno and the solid-rocket-powered AD-2 Ambush.
Key details
- Helsing says Contra can connect with existing air-defense interceptors and counter-drone systems.
- The company describes the AD-1 Inferno as designed for aerial loitering, swarming and repeated engagements.
- Helsing gives the AD-2 Ambush a stated range of 20 kilometres.
- Helsing President and co-founder Niklas Köhler said Contra combines existing sensors and effectors with the company’s AD-1 and AD-2 interceptors.
Helsing gives the AD-2 Ambush a stated top speed of Mach 2.5 and a range of 20 kilometres.
Why it matters
Contra’s planned links to existing sensors and defense systems could let operators combine those tools with Helsing’s new interceptors in one coordinated system. The AD-1 and AD-2 offer two different propulsion designs for the company’s air-defense lineup.
What happens next
Helsing’s next step is to develop Contra and its interceptor designs into an integrated air-defense offering. Which of the two interceptor designs would you like to learn more about?
