Finnair Cargo plans to begin a daily, year-round cargo service linking Helsinki and Melbourne via Bangkok on 25 October 2026, according to The STAT Trade Times.

Key details

- The airline plans to carry cargo in the belly hold of Airbus A350 passenger aircraft. The STAT Trade Times reports an approximate capacity of 23 tonnes or 95 cubic metres, subject to operational requirements. - Through shipments of pharmaceuticals, perishables and other temperature-sensitive goods will not initially be accepted in either direction. Finnair Cargo may accept such goods separately on the Helsinki–Bangkok and Bangkok–Melbourne sectors, subject to requirements and restrictions. - Finnair Cargo is mapping temperatures across the route, including the Bangkok stopover, and plans to review the restrictions after its assessment. - The STAT Trade Times reports that Qantas Freight will handle cargo on the ground in Melbourne from 1 October 2026. ACP Worldwide will represent Finnair Cargo in sales and service in Australia and New Zealand.

Finnair Cargo plans to operate the Helsinki–Bangkok–Melbourne service daily throughout the year.

Why it matters

The planned service would give cargo customers a Helsinki–Melbourne connection through Bangkok. The initial limits on temperature-sensitive through cargo set out which shipments the airline will not accept across the full route at launch.

What happens next

Finnair Cargo plans to start the service on 25 October 2026 and review its temperature-sensitive cargo restrictions after completing route temperature mapping. The STAT Trade Times reports that the airline has not announced additional frequencies or capacity; Head of Global Sales Anna-Maria Kirchner gave that position.
