The FAA and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency announced renewed cooperation at their 2026 International Safety Conference in Chantilly, Virginia, on June 18. Their pledge covers safety information exchange, operational data, safety management and coordination on rules and emerging aviation technologies.

The next FAA-EASA International Aviation Safety Conference is scheduled for June 22–24, 2027, in Cologne, Germany.

What has been confirmed

The agencies confirmed plans to share safety oversight information and work together on operational data that can inform rulemaking. They also committed to advancing data-driven Safety Management Systems and working toward more aligned approval processes for emerging technologies and operations. The pledge names cockpit automation, electronic devices, aircrew training, cyber threats, conflict zones, satellite-navigation interference and extreme weather as cooperation areas. FAA and EASA executive leaders plan regular meetings to review implementation and emerging priorities.

Why it matters

For US airlines and aircraft manufacturers that operate across the Atlantic, closer coordination between the FAA and EASA can help align regulatory approaches and approval pathways. Shared work on operational data and safety management also gives the agencies a basis for coordinating how they address common aviation challenges.

FlyMarshall context

The FAA regulates civil aviation in the United States, while EASA coordinates aviation safety and certification work across the European Union. When the agencies align technical requirements, airlines and manufacturers working in both markets can engage with more consistent processes for qualifying new technologies and operations. The pledge sets areas of cooperation, but does not announce a specific new certification or operational approval.

What happens next

Agency leaders plan regular meetings to assess progress. The next FAA-EASA International Aviation Safety Conference is scheduled for June 22–24, 2027, in Cologne, Germany.
