Africa World Airlines (AWA) received its first Embraer E190 in Accra on September 19, 2026, AeroTime reported. The aircraft adds a larger-capacity type to the Ghanaian airline’s fleet.
Key details
- AeroTime reported that the E190 has 102 seats; AWA’s Embraer ERJ-145 aircraft have 50. - AWA resumed its Accra–Abidjan route on August 31, with flights scheduled on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. - AeroTime reported that a second E190 is expected by the end of 2026 and that the airline is aiming for up to 10 E190s within 18 to 24 months.
The E190 is configured for 102 passengers, compared with 50 seats on AWA’s Embraer ERJ-145 aircraft, according to AeroTime.
Why it matters
The E190 gives AWA more seats per aircraft than its ERJ-145s for serving routes from its Accra hub. COO Sohail Mahmood said AWA plans to focus on West African connections before pursuing broader expansion. He named Central and East Africa as possible future markets and said interline partnerships could extend the airline’s reach into Southern Africa.
What happens next
AeroTime reported that AWA expects its second E190 by the end of 2026. The airline’s reported target is up to 10 E190s within 18 to 24 months.
