United Airlines is doubling its flights from Newark to Porto this summer. Initially, the airline planned only one day by day flight, but in the previous few days, it altered its summer schedule to incorporate a second flight.

United is the American carrier with probably the most flights to Portugal, offering flights to Lisbon, Porto, and Ponta Delgada, and this 12 months, launching services to Faro. In recent times, the airline’s MO () has been significantly expanding, solidifying its position because the leading carrier across the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. The addition of the second day by day flight to Porto does just that.

United Airlines Launches Its Largest Ever Summer Schedule For 2024
Summer is coming early too!
From May 23, United will offer two nighttime Boeing 757-200 flights from Newark Liberty International Airport to Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport in Porto. The three,340-mile route may have 704 seats available (roundtrip) daily, as United’s 757-200s are configured in a two-cabin configuration with Polaris Business Class up front. United’s two flights will complement TAP Air Portugal’s day by day flight from Porto on its Airbus A321neos.

With the addition of the second day by day flight, United increased its seat offering from Newark to Porto by nearly 30,000 seats for the summer in comparison with last 12 months. Easy Flying asked United for a press release, and the airline confirmed the change and highlighted that it’s the only US carrier to serve Porto.
Additional service to Portugal
In keeping with Cirium, there are 1,431 roundtrip flights scheduled between the USA and Portugal in July. The market is split between five airlines (so as of market share, largest to smallest): TAP Air Portugal, United Airlines, Azores Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and American Airlines. TAP has nearly half of the market and serves seven destinations. It has eight routes from Portugal, seven from Lisbon, and one from Porto to Newark.
As mentioned above, United will serve more Portuguese destinations than any American airline, with 4 destinations. Ponta Delgada service, which operates throughout the summer on Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, was launched in 2021 and have become the carrier’s third destination in Portugal.
